Tuna Noodle Casserole 01 1/2 stick unsalted butter 1/4 cup finely chopped onion 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 2 1/2 cups milk 1 cup grated cheddar cheese 2 (6.5 ounce) cans tuna, drained, flaked 2 cups cooked egg noodles 1 (15.25 ounce) can peas, drained Salt and pepper to taste 1/2 cup bread crumbs 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted Preheat oven to 375. In saucepan, melt 1/2 stick butter over medium heat until fragrant and bubbly. Add onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, or until tender. Stir in flour. Cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Whisk in milk. Return to heat. Cook, whisking for 10 minutes, or until sauce comes to a boil and is thickened. Remove from heat. Whisk in cheese until melted. Place tuna in bowl. Stir in hot cheese sauce. Add noodles, peas, salt and pepper, mix well. Pour into buttered 2 quart baking dish. In another bowl, combine bread crumbs and 2 tablespoons butter. Sprinkle over tuna mixture. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until bubbly and browned.
